clay piping

Common defects

If you don’t tighten up the joint correctly it will leak.

When you’re digging to get to the pipe sometimes you hit the pipe and crack it.

Where your working in trenches and there is a lot of earth, sometimes the earth can get into the pipes without you realising and clog them up.

Common materials

Clay piping

Metal piping

Multi seal

Possible defects in materials

Clay piping could crack

If you tighten up the fixing to tight it could cause tension on the pipe and cause it to crack.

If you don’t tighten up the fixing enough it will leak.

Tools, power tools, and materials.

A shovel

A flat headed screwdriver

A hack saw

Clay piping

Multi seal

A tape measure

Buckets

A ladder

Method statement:

First we will stop the water flowing through the clay pipe and then we will use a shovel to dig down to the clay pipe that is broken and move the earth to the side of the trench so that it will not collapse in on us, we will then cut the section of broken pipe out and cut a new length to put it, we will use a multi seal to fix the two ends together as we can use a screwdriver to tighten them up and make the water proof etc.
